FEATURED GUEST SIERRA BENDER

2012 Yoga Round-Up Featured Guest Bio – Sierra Bender

Sierra Bender is an internationally acclaimed women’s advocate, author of the one of a kind book, Goddess to the Core®,and creator of the Sierra Bender Empowerment Method (SBEM), a multi modal approach that synthesizes the disciplines of modern medicine, science, indigenous wisdom, holistic health, exercise physiology, quantum physics, nutrition, yoga therapy and the psychology of trauma/addiction/sexual abuse. Sierra infuses clinical studies with holistic intelligence.

As an activist, her mission is to lower the statistics of violence against women-to empower women one at a time to lead, from the inside out, with power, purpose and passion.

As a Worldwide mentor, Sierra teaches women to breakthrough the masculine/feminine divide in an effort to redefine fitness, beauty and power. This new definition is simultaneously an internal presence and external attitude.

Sierra gives new meaning to the outdated notion that success and power for a woman means walking in a man’s shoes. She teaches women to create their own destiny instead of allowing their environment to dictate it for them.

Her life reads like an epic adventure. Sierra shares what she learned-coming from a background of sexual abuse and miraculously surviving a ruptured uterus at age 32-modern medicine saved her life but could not heal her. For ten years, she traveled the world on an odyssey of self-healing and learning. She lived and studied alongside shamans, yogis, and indigenous healers; within Native American communities; in the ashrams of India; deep in the jungles of the Amazon, and high in the Peruvian Andes. There, Sierra experienced the body’s innate ability to heal itself, known as ancient wisdom/holistic intelligence.

All of her programs, including her internationally renowned Boot Camp for Goddesses® Goddess to the Core ®, Core Power Boot Camp workshops and professional trainings are built upon the SBEM: a 4 Body Fit ® approach to health that exercises all four planes of existence: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual.

SBEM is currently being employed by therapists, medical practitioners, educators and yoga instructors, and is also being studied by American University, DC and University of Puerto Rico in a nationwide clinical trial to measure its effectiveness as a tool for empowering women and girls. SBEM is also being implemented in schools systems for teenage girls across the country, such as the prestigious Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, New York. Sierra’s programs have helped thousands of women and young girls suffering from addictions, depression, body image and trauma to awaken a new consciousness and reclaim their self-worth, health and happiness.

Her charismatic appeal has been featured on Oprah Radio, Univision TV, in USA Today and other newspapers throughout Australia, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, U.K., Germany and the U.S., as well as in Marie Claire, Shape, Body & Soul, Yoga Journal, Fit Yoga and Natural Awakenings Magazine.

Sierra’s way of giving back is supporting non profit organizations such as CMT’s Country Music Television “Country in the Rockies Event, ” as well as raising money for the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Tennessee and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

She has received an award from the Youth Consultation Service (Newark, New Jersey) for outstanding results working with abused and neglected children.

She is a leading educator at the esteemed centers, Omega Institute for Holistic Studies, NY and Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, MA for Women’s Empowerment & Well-Being.

Sierra’s clients include celebrities, Olympic and professional athletes, as well as Wall Street & Fortune 500 CEOs for Time Warner, Revlon, American Express, Morgan Stanley and NHL.
